Working with primarily pharma documents that contain intellectual property information, processes and internal proprietary terms, an AMLAW 100 law firm must identify documents that are privileged. Privilege provides special protection that exempts certain documents and other forms of communication from having to be disclosed in legal proceedings. Its protection is powerful, but it can be easily lost if privileged information is handled incorrectly. A document may be marked as Privileged if it contains text such as legal advice, and communication among lawyers, clients, and third parties.

Working with primarily tax documents containing tax information, individual names, addresses, phone, Tax ID numbers, and Social Security Numbers (all considered to be Personally Identifiable Information  (PII)), the Vendor was looking for a cost-effective way to identify and redact specific information on forms. By using automated PII detection, over two-thirds of the documents were automatically identified saving a significant review burden.

Working with legacy highly personal documents (under 50,000) containing individual names of persons involved in private felonious activity, a law firm’s objective was to identify and catalog individuals who may have been involved in multiple incidents. For the past three years, the team has worked to establish a cross-reference key list that could be used as a master list that could be prioritized for further investigative review.

A US vendor hosts over 40 TB of data across 1,000 projects within its iCONECT system, totaling several billion documents including 24 billion total imaged pages. Across multiple projects, using the iCONECT redaction system, PII detection has located over 115 million documents with billions of instances of PII allowing them to be withheld from public domain distribution, production inclusion or sharing. Via the iCONECT system users have manually and automatically redacted over 100k documents.
