iCONECT Leads Panel on International ESI at E-Discovery ConferenceLos Angeles, CA (December 21, 2009) Ian Campbell of iCONECT Development, LLC, a world leader in litigation support and collaboration software, was joined by Timm Miller of Philips North America, Denise Backhouse of the law firm Morgan Lewis, and Kurt Michel of Content Analyst in a panel discussion on “U.S. Federal Rules Regarding ESI Versus Laws and Regulations in Other Countries” at the IQPC 8th Annual E-Discovery Conference in New York. The privacy laws are much tighter in many other countries, inhibiting access to employee e-mail and company records that US firms may take for granted. The specific regulations and laws discussed included the EU data privacy regulations, the Hague evidence convention, and the precedent set for requiring discovery even in defiance of blocking statutes from the data’s jurisdiction. “iCONECT software is built for worldwide, multi-party collaboration and e-discovery review, so we make it our business to understand the challenges of international cases,” said Ian Campbell, Chief Operating Officer of iCONECT Development, LLC. “I was pleased to share my experience and help conference attendees understand some of the challenges of international ESI and the steps that law firms may need to follow in their discovery process.” Each panel member brought a different perspective to the subject of international e-discovery. From Miller’s corporate experience in international cases and Michel’s expertise in the capture and analysis of documents to Backhouse’s foreign law firm and client perspective, Campbell’s panel gave the audience in the downtown Manhattan conference center a well-rounded view into a potentially complex process. The overall conference theme was proactive approaches to managing e-discovery and the latest technologies available to help overcome the growing mountain of e-discovery challenges. Many firms report that while there is a greater understanding of e-discovery law and more clearly-defined rules, costs continue to increase. Representatives at the conference introduced strategies as well as products that can curb costs. iCONECT software includes iCONECTnXT, an international web-based hosting and review platform. nXT has a proven track record with over 13 billion pages hosted worldwide, and is used by Fortune 500 companies, prestigious Am Law 100 firms, and branches of federal and state governments for litigation support, mergers and acquisitions, and multi-party international projects.
